The portrait of Stephen was exhibited at The Royal Society of Portrait Painters annual exhibition in 2005
I begin my portraits with a photographic session with the client, about two hours is sufficient in good light. I work from these images creating the final idea for the portrait.
A second session is sometimes necessary to provide me with more photographic material. The ideas for the portrait are discussed with the client during this process. On completion minor changes can be made to please the client.
The panels are prepared with gesso over fine cloth, then the image is drawn onto the gesso and painted in water based colour. Depth and subtelty are added using oil glazes. Only the finest artists materials are used.
The portrait painting commissions have arisen from other figurative and decorative work for my patrons.
