The Library Door
This trompe l'oeil mural is painted over a jib (hidden and flush) door. the shelves and cupboard are painted as exact trompe l'oeil copies of the serrounding cupboards.
The books and still life are painted in an C18th old master style with aged colouring and a crackle varnish, to make a visual joke contrasting the modern trompe with the old trompe.
In the fireplace is a chimney board, painted with a trompe l'oeil vase and flowers. It is cut exactly to fit the opening. It is a traditional way of blocking the draughts out and decorating the unused fire in the summer.
